Frequently Asked Questions
GLF Regional Legal Excellence Awards 2026
Answers to your most important questions about participating in the premier global legal recognition program
Award Categories & Regional Competition
How do you fairly judge firms from different countries within the same region?
This is our most important design principle. Regional awards don’t compare firms directly against each other, but rather evaluate each firm’s excellence relative to their specific market context and contribution to regional legal standards.
Our evaluation considers:
• Market Context: A leading Iraqi firm is judged on Iraqi market excellence and regional influence
• Regional Impact: Cross-border work, regional precedents, and influence on regional legal development
• Relative Achievement: Excellence within each firm’s specific market size and legal system
• Regional Contribution: How the firm elevates legal standards across the broader region
Example: An Iraqi firm winning major infrastructure deals and setting regional precedents can outrank a larger Egyptian firm that lacks regional innovation or cross-border impact.
Do I need offices in multiple countries to win a regional award?
No. Regional excellence can be demonstrated through:
• Cross-Border Work: Handling matters across regional jurisdictions from a single office
• Regional Expertise: Deep knowledge of regional laws and business practices
• Local Market Leadership: Setting standards that influence regional practice
• Regional Client Base: Serving clients across the region from your base location
• Regional Recognition: Industry acknowledgment of your regional expertise
What makes a firm eligible for a specific region?
Eligibility is based on:
• Primary Practice Location: Your main legal operations within the regional boundaries
• Regional Focus: Significant portion of work involving regional legal matters
• Market Presence: Recognized presence in regional legal markets
• Client Base: Serving clients with regional legal needs
Note: If you practice across regions, you may choose your strongest regional category.
How do you account for different legal systems within a region?
Our regional judges are specifically selected for their deep understanding of diverse legal systems within each region. For example:
• MENA judges understand both civil law (North Africa) and Islamic law influences
• Asian judges recognize differences between common law (Singapore, Hong Kong) and civil law (China, South Korea) systems
Regional expertise is a primary judge selection criterion.
