With more than 25 years in-house experience as patent attorney, Loek has further elevated the IP leverage function at DSM-Firmenich towards a strategic business asset. In that approach, patents should protect products and businesses, rather than just inventions.  

Through close collaboration with R&D teams and business leaders, he reaffirmed that patents alone may not always provide sufficient protection. He built integrated IP portfolios that combine patents with trade secrets, designs, and trademarks to safeguard innovations. He furthermore defended innovative businesses against infringements in court in multiple jurisdictions across the world.
